Wednesday, February 7, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the public is invited to see the Four Corners Collection. Kathy Kankainen, Utah Museum of Natural History anthropology collections manager, will show and describe selected items from this collection. The event will take place at Zions Bank, 460 N. Main St., Logan.
The Four Corners Collection is an accumulation of hundreds of Native American rugs, katsina dolls, jewelry, and beadwork gathered over five decades by Utahn Dorothy Haslam during her travels through the territory of the Navajo, Ute, Apache, Hopi, Zuni, and other tribes in the Four Corners area.
University of Utah professor Marjorie Chan stumbled upon the collection a few years ago while at an estate sale held by Dorothy Haslam’s family following her death. The family told her about the collection of more than 600 objects, one of the largest of its kind, valued in the millions of dollars. With disbelief at their variety and beauty, Chan told the Utah Museum of Natural History about the items, and the museum’s Collectors Council raised $180,000 to buy the collection. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see this amazing collection.
The event is made possible by the Utah Museum of Natural History and Zions Bank.
